The Economy and Revenue Generation
The trend by the Federal Government is to cut back costs to all Departments. This has been ongoing for many years now. We must ensure that we create enough of our own revenue generation initiatives to be able to pay for our Education costs and other program costs as well as costs associated with our infrastructure. We can do this in several ways.
1- By ensuring that all resource extraction within our territory does not take place without our consent and that Impact Benefit Agreements are in place before extraction takes place. This includes all industries including wood extraction.
2- By partnering with corporations to develop viable businesses that generate income for our community. These businesses can include areas like hydro, wind and solar power generation as well as initiatives linked to the forest industry. With the new Forestry Model now in place we can purchase wood to feed small to medium sized wood products initiatives which will produce jobs and revenue for the community.
We also need to ensure we partner with businesses working for the new Stillwater Mine. We must also ensure that the new mine provides jobs for our people as well as skills training.
3- By developing businesses on our own. Both community owned and privately owned.
I will support and advocate for economic projects that will provide:
1- Revenue for our community.
2- Long term strategic economic opportunities.
3- Meaningful jobs for our people.
4- Small business opportunities for private individuals.
